FD&C Red 40 Aluminum Lake is a substrate-based pigment created by precipitating a water-soluble dye onto an inert base, producing a colorant that behaves like a pigment rather than a dye. This allows it to deliver strong, vibrant color in oil-based, wax-based, and low-moisture formulations where straight dyes would bleed or migrate.

• Pre-wet with oils such as Castor Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, or Isododecane
• Use high-shear mixing for best color uniformity

• Create a pigment grind for repeatable production
• Combine with iron oxides or titanium dioxide to modify tone and opacity
• Disperse before wax addition in stick systems to avoid speckling
