  • Amodimethicone (Amino Silicone Emulsion)

For Hair Conditioning & Frizz Protection

INCI Name: Amodimethicone (and) Cetrimonium Chloride (and) Trideceth-12

    Appearance: White, liquid emulsion

Solubility: Water-dispersible microemulsion (dilutes in water to an opalescent/milky appearance).

    Charge: Weak cationic

Recommended Finished Product pH: 4.0 – 5.5 for best deposition

    Addition Temperature: Add in cool-down < 40 °C with gentle–moderate stirring

Usage Rate (Emulsion): Application-dependent (see below)

    Commonly Used In:

    • Conditioning shampoos
    • Rinse-off conditioners and masks
    • Leave-in creams and sprays
    • Frizz-control and smoothing products
    • Color-protect care

Note: Supplied as a ready-to-use water microemulsion for direct addition to water-based systems. Not intended for anhydrous formulas. For oil-only formulations, consider our Amodimethicone suitable for oil/silicone dispersibility.

  • Why Choose Amodimethicone Emulsion?

This amino-functional silicone deposits selectively on damaged hair, improving smoothness and shine with minimal weight. In mildly acidic pH, the amine groups carry a positive charge that targets the negatively charged, porous sites on hair fibers.

    Key Benefits:

    • Reduces frizz and enhances manageability
    • Improves wet/dry combing and detangling
    • Boosts gloss and softness without greasiness
    • Helps retain hair color by forming a protective, hydrophobic film
    • Supports heat styling slip and reduces mechanical damage

    Performance Highlights:

    • Selective conditioning with reduced build-up on healthy areas
    • Effective at low use levels in rinse-off and leave-in formats
    • Plays well with cationic systems and cationic polymers for enhanced deposition

Typical Use Levels (convert from solids)

    • Shampoos: 0.1–0.4% active silicone → ~0.3–1.0% emulsion (at ~38% solids)
    • Rinse-off conditioners/masks: 0.3–0.8% active → ~0.8–2.3% emulsion
    • Leave-ins/creams/sprays: 0.1–0.3% active → ~0.3–0.8% emulsion

    Formulation Tips:

    In Water-Based Emulsions & Conditioners:

    • Add during cool-down < 40 °C; avoid excessive post-addition shear.
    • Target finished pH 4.0–5.5 to maximize deposition and performance.
    • Excellent with cationic emulsifiers (e.g., BTMS-50/25) and cationic polymers (e.g., Polyquaternium-10/7).

    In Shampoos:

    • Use small amounts of cationic polymer (e.g., 0.1–0.3% PQ-10) to aid deposition from anionic surfactant systems.
    • Add the emulsion late and keep pH in the mildly acidic range.
