Formulation Guidance

For Water-Based Emulsions (Conditioners, Creams, Masks)

• Amodimethicone is not water-soluble and must be emulsified using a compatible system.
• For best compatibility, use a cationic emulsifier such as BTMS-25 or BTMS-50 in the oil phase.
• Incorporate into the oil phase, then emulsify with adequate shear during the main emulsification step.
• Typical performance pH: 4.0 – 6.0 (common for conditioners and color-care products).
• Do not add directly to the water phase unless pre-emulsified.

For Anhydrous / Silicone-Serum Systems

• Amodimethicone is generally not truly soluble in most plant oils; it performs best when dispersed in compatible carriers.
• Common compatible carriers include:
• Cyclopentasiloxane (D5)
• Isododecane
• C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate
• Isoamyl Laurate (may vary by system; test for clarity/stability)
• Warm gently (≤50 °C) only if needed to reduce viscosity and improve dispersion.
• Always perform stability testing (clarity, separation, viscosity drift) for long-term storage.

Practical Tip

If you want “easy mode” for water systems, choose the water-dispersible emulsion version. If you want maximum flexibility in custom emulsions or silicone serums, use this non-emulsified grade and build the system around it.
