Function: Skin brightening, pigment correction, anti-inflammatory

Tranexamic Acid is a non-exfoliating, amino acid–derived brightening ingredient used to reduce the appearance of dark spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). It is well-tolerated and suitable for sensitive and reactive skin types.

    Commonly Used In:

    • Brightening and pigment-correcting serums
    • Spot treatment formulas
    • Eye creams (for dark circles)
    • Anti-inflammatory creams and masks
    • Products targeting melasma or uneven tone
  • Why Choose Tranexamic Acid?

Tranexamic Acid works by inhibiting melanin production triggered by inflammation and UV exposure. It is not an exfoliant or acid in the traditional sense and is suitable for long-term use with fewer side effects compared to ingredients like hydroquinone or retinoids. It is especially effective when combined with niacinamide, azelaic acid, or Vitamin C derivatives.

    Key Benefits:

    • Reduces appearance of dark spots, melasma, and acne scars
    • Brightens overall skin tone
    • Non-irritating, suitable for sensitive skin
    • Can be used long-term without rebound pigmentation
    • Supports anti-inflammatory and barrier-supportive routines

    Usage Guidelines:

    • Recommended usage: 2% – 5%
    • Soluble in water; dissolve at 40–60°C
    • Final product pH: ideally between 5.0 and 7.0
    • Compatible with Vitamin C, niacinamide, kojic acid, azelaic acid
    • Use in leave-on serums, creams, or lotions

    Regulatory Notes:

    • EU (CosIng): Permitted in cosmetic products with no concentration cap, but claims must not imply drug-like effects.
    • FDA (USA): Allowed in OTC cosmetics, but no therapeutic or drug claims should be made (i.e., avoid “treats melasma” unless FDA-approved as a drug).
    • Health Canada: Approved for cosmetic use at up to 5% with proper labeling and no drug claims.

    Labeling & Cautions:

    • Do not claim it “treats” melasma or pigmentation disorders in unapproved markets
    • Include SPF in product recommendations, as brightening actives can increase sun sensitivity
    • Patch testing is recommended before first use
    • Avoid use in lip or mucous membrane products
